The Asheville Downtown Improvement District (ADID) is activating Wall Street Plaza with Lunchbox Live, a daily lunchtime series pairing live music with outdoor dining, running October 1 through November 20, 2026.

Downtown employees have said they want more reasons to linger nearby on a lunch break. Lunchbox Live answers that with a free, daily gathering spot in the middle of the workday, built for the people who live and work here, and welcome to all.

Lunchbox Live is part of a larger pilot initiative for Wall Street focused on Downtown business resilience. Learn more about ADID's Business Resilience Strategy here.

Each day from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., a featured busker will perform in Wall Street Plaza while ADID provides bistro tables and chairs for visitors to sit, eat, and enjoy the music. Participating restaurants, including Flour Cafe, Slava Bakery, Asheville Forager, and El Tesoro, are offering a "Downtown Lunchbox Special," a simple, grab-and-go meal, giving Downtown workers and visitors an easy reason to grab takeout and stay awhile. Visitors are also encouraged to stop into the other shops along Wall Street while they're there.

Lunchbox Live is also a chance to support Asheville's local busker community, and applications for buskers are now open. Interested buskers should view the application form for full details, including pay and eligibility.

"Wall Street has such great restaurants and shops, and Asheville has such a rich busking culture," said Erica Waltemade, Deputy Director, Asheville Downtown Improvement District. "Starting October 1, we're bringing the two together with lunch specials and live buskers on the plaza daily. We're thrilled that our Downtown businesses are stepping up to make it easy for people to grab lunch and enjoy spending more time on Wall Street."

In the event of rain, ADID will work with participating businesses to move performances indoors when possible so the series can continue.

In October, more public art is coming to the plaza, and Lunchbox Live visitors will have a front-row seat to watch it happen. More information will be announced soon.

Lunchbox Live is free and open to the public.
