ABOUT

The Blue Ridge Orchestra seeks a skilled young conductor to work closely with the
Music Director. The Assistant Conductor will serve as cover conductor for all performances and
may have the opportunity to conduct select works as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

COVER CONDUCTOR: Be present at and fully prepared to conduct rehearsals
(Wednesdays, 7-9:30 pm) and concerts in case of the Music Director’s absence.

CONDUCT: May be assigned to conduct select works and programs, such as outreach
events.

OTHER: Involvement in Blue Ridge Orchestra events and operations as needed. Serve as
an ambassador of the organization.

REQUIREMENTS

• Two to five years of professional or collegiate conducting experience
• Broad knowledge of the orchestral repertoire
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• A willingness to learn and collaborate
• Degree in Conducting, Music Education, or meaningful conducting experience
• While this is a contract position, candidates must be eligible for employment in the United States.

COMPENSATION

Assistant Conductor shall receive a $2,000 stipend for the one-year position with the possibility of
a one-year extension. Candidates must be eligible for employment in the United States.
