BMCA Dance, part of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, is seeking a part-time Hip-Hop Instructor to join our team for the 2025–2026 season (September–May). This is a 1099 contractor position with classes primarily scheduled on Tuesday evenings, with some flexibility for Wednesdays or weekend afternoons. Compensation is based on a tuition split model. At BMCA, we believe in the power of the arts to build connection, confidence, and community. Our dance program is rooted in values of accessibility, inclusion, and respect. We are committed to fostering a space where students of all ages and abilities feel seen, supported, and empowered through movement.

Position Overview: We are seeking an instructor who brings not only strong technical skills in Hip Hop dance but also a culturally responsive and historically informed approach. The ideal candidate can contextualize Hip Hop within its roots in Black and Latinx communities, guiding students to engage with the form thoughtfully and respectfully, considering movement, music, and expression in ways that honor the culture and avoid appropriation. This position is a great fit for someone who is collaborative, passionate about dance education, and excited to help grow a values-driven community dance program.

  • Develop your own curriculum, supported by a collaborative teaching team
  • Take attendance and assist with tuition collection as needed
  • Support class marketing and student recruitment efforts
  • Maintain communication with the program coordinator
  • Attend periodic staff meetings
  • Choreograph pieces for all classes for the annual recital in May
  • Help maintain studio cleanliness and care for shared space

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching Hip Hop in a studio or community setting
  • Knowledge of Hip Hop’s cultural foundations and commitment to respectful representation
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • A welcoming, inclusive teaching philosophy
