Asheville Junior Theater Brings Shrek The Musical JR.
Out of the storm and into the swamp, Asheville Junior Theater is proud to present Shrek The Musical JR., a production that embodies the spirit of resilience, creativity, and community. After months of uncertainty, setbacks, and the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, the young performers of Asheville Junior Theater are ready to take the stage and bring this beloved story to life.
Originally set to premiere in November 2024, the production faced unexpected challenges as families dealt with the aftermath of the storm and changing venues due to Warren Wilson’s damage, forcing the show to be postponed. Yet, just like the fairytale misfits in Shrek JR., this cast refused to give up. Now, after rebuilding, regrouping, and pushing forward together, these dedicated young actors are stepping into the spotlight—proving that even in the darkest times, the show can (and must) go on.
Performance Schedule:
April 5, 2025 – 4:00 p.m.
April 6, 2025 – 2:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m.

A Story of Strength, Laughter, and Finding Your Place in the World More than just a musical, Shrek JR. is a celebration of perseverance, friendship, and embracing what makes each of us unique. When a reclusive ogre named Shrek finds his home overrun by displaced fairytale creatures, he embarks on an adventure to reclaim his swamp—only to discover that true belonging isn’t about where you live, but the people who stand beside you.
For this cast, that theme hits especially close to home. They’ve weathered real-life struggles, supported one another through unexpected changes, and poured their hearts into every song, dance, and line. Their journey to the stage mirrors the story they’re telling—a tale of hope, humor, and the power of community.
