2026 - 2027 Self Directed Residency
2026 - 2027 Self Directed Residency
We are thrilled to introduce our new Self-Directed Residency Program! This opportunity is designed for artists seeking uninterrupted studio time in our state-of-the-art facilities. Residents propose a project within a primary studio area - ceramics, metalsmithing, or woodworking. Additionally, there is a mixed media/flex space available for a variety of other projects such as textiles, book arts, collage, and/or paper arts. Open to artists at any stage in their career, this residency is ideal for those who can work independently and safely with the studio equipment. Whether focusing on personal exploration or collaborative projects, participants can tailor their residency from one week to a full month. Collaborative residencies should be submitted as a single application.
Proposal Options Fall + Winter 2026: September - December Spring 2027: February - April
Costs $450 weekly residency fee per resident (includes studio use and housing in a private room).
Accommodations Participants receive housing in a private room with a private bathroom. They are responsible for providing their own meals and have 24-hour access to a fully equipped communal kitchen, gas grill, a communal lounge area, and plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy river and town views.
Materials Residents are responsible for supplying their own materials and may ship items to Pocosin Arts before the residency. Materials may also be purchased from Pocosin. Residents are responsible for studio fees, which cover consumables, and firing fees in the ceramics studio.
Participants must be 21 or older. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate children or pets at this time. Spouses may only attend if they are actively participating in a collaborative residency. Pocosin invests significantly in program planning. Cancellations can be challenging to accommodate, even with waiting lists, so we apply a $100 cancellation fee to help cover these costs.
Application Opens: January 15, 2026 Application Closes: March 30, 2026 Notification: May 4, 2026
