Very Part-Time | 1099 Contractor | Black Mountain, NC

BMCA Dance, a program of the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, is building a pool of substitute dance instructors to support our growing roster of weekly classes and workshops. We are especially seeking instructors who are available on short notice, flexible in their teaching, and committed to inclusive, student-centered dance education. This includes substitute opportunities across a range of styles—ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, tap, and creative movement—as well as coverage for our MoveAbility program, which serves dancers with disabilities and invites all bodies and abilities to move with joy and agency.

About BMCA Dance: Our program serves youth and adults in the Swannanoa Valley with a mission to provide high-quality, low-cost, inclusive dance education in a welcoming, non-competitive environment. Substitute Instructor Roles Include:

• Leading scheduled dance classes when regular instructors are absent
• Following or adapting existing lesson plans, or designing your own as needed
• Creating a supportive, responsive classroom environment
• Working with dancers of diverse ages, identities, and physical abilities
• Communicating promptly with the BMCA Dance Program Coordinator
• Supporting the BMCA mission through professional and compassionate teaching

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

• Experience teaching dance in a studio, school, or community setting
• A flexible, inclusive approach to movement and pedagogy
• Availability for occasional short-notice subbing (especially evenings or weekends)
• A warm, encouraging teaching presence
• (Optional but valued) Experience in adaptive or inclusive dance settings, such as working with neurodivergent dancers or people with disabilities

Compensation: This is a part-time, 1099 contractor position. Substitute pay is offered per class, based on length and responsibilities.
