This class is great for new and returning students! While previous students are welcome to attend and continue to advance their brush strokes. New students will learn the basic Bamboo strokes, while returning students can move on to the Grass Orchid.
You will learn how to prepare the ink for painting, how to correctly hold the Sumi brush, and how to practice traditional movements and brushstrokes - along with what types of rice papers to use for this beautiful art form. As you practice you will see your strokes progress with the ability to accomplish paintings that can be framed and displayed!
The beauty of this simplistic style of painting isthe fundamental brush strokes of lines and dots. These techniques are centuries old and have been handed down from one master Sumi-e teacher to another. Sumi-e is a wonderful discipline that is very relaxing and provides an artistic escape from our everyday hectic world. To understand the way of the sumi-e brush one must master essential strokes. The basic strokes of the Bamboo, Grass Orchid, Plum, and Chrysanthemum are the fundamental strokes for all sumi paintings.
