The Village Potters Clay Center at Westgate

Shaping Clay, Shaping Lives The Village Potters Clay Center

The Village Potters Clay Center (TVPCC), after a year of recovery from the flood of Hurricane Helene in Sept. 2024, is now relocated just 0.4 miles above Asheville’s River Arts District in Westgate. TVPCC is known well locally and nationally as thriving hub for ceramic arts, excellence in education, and community. Founded in 2011 by nationally recognized potter Sarah Wells Rolland, her husband George Rolland, and a dedicated team of professional potters who also serve as instructors, The Village Potters Clay Center quickly grew into a dynamic and welcoming creative community where skill is honed and exploration is fostered. The Center is home to The Village Potter Resident Artists and more than 18 other professional potters who maintain studios and sell their work on-site. The large Gallery showcases functional, decorative, and sculptural ceramics, highlighting the very unique styles, creativity, and craftsmanship of The Village Potter Resident Artists alongside 18 other working professional potters. Each ceramic artist brings a distinct style and perspective to clay, and together they foster a lively atmosphere of collaboration, creativity, and artistic excellence. TVPCC offers classes for students from beginner to advanced levels, immersive weeklong workshops, and a one of a kind Independent Study & Mentoring Program that blends independent exploration with personalized mentorship for emerging potters who desire a career in the arts. Community engagement is at the heart of the Center’s mission, with tours, demonstrations, exhibitions, and public events that invite people to experience the beauty, process, and connection found through the craft of clay.

Through decades of teaching, creating, and sharing, The Village Potters Clay Center has become a beacon of creativity, resilience, and skill. It is truly a place where clay transforms lives and fosters a thriving community of artists. Inclusivity

The Village Potters Clay Center is committed to serving and supporting every person. We maintain a community which recognizes, values and celebrates the worth, and uniqueness of all individuals and all are welcome. The Village Potters does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status.
