2027 Winter Residency

The Winter Residency offers a 2-week or 4-week session in January of uninterrupted studio time and an opportunity to work with artists across creative disciplines.

Residency dates:

• Session 1: January 3 -16, 2027
• Session 2: January 17 - 30, 2027

Applicants propose a project for a primary studio area, including ceramics, metalsmithing, and woodworking. There is also a mixed media studio suitable for other projects. Artists at any stage in their career are welcome but must be capable of using studio equipment independently. The residency environment is conducive to individual and collaborative work. Each studio will be staffed with a coordinator to help with any equipment or studio-related questions during the workday.

Participants must be 21 or older and are responsible for providing their own materials and meals. They will have 24-hour access to a fully equipped communal kitchen and gas grill, a communal lounge area, and plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy river and town views.

Costs: $500 per session + studio fee

Housing: Residents select housing in a quad ($250), double ($400), single ($600) room, or the Pigeon House ($900) per session. All rooms have their own private bath. Linens are provided and there is laundry access.

Materials: Residents are responsible for supplying their own materials and may ship items to Pocosin Arts before the residency. Residents may also purchase materials from Pocosin Arts.

Travel Expenses: Winter Residents are responsible for their travel expenses to and from Pocosin Arts.

Food Expenses: Meals are not provided but all residents will have access to a shared kitchen. Winter residents will also be able to purchase meals from nearby restaurants.

Pocosin Arts now offers several need-based fellowships which cover the residency fee for a two-week residency. Available fellowships are limited; anyone is eligible to request funding. Winter residents who are awarded fellowships will still be responsible for housing fees, studio fees, travel, and food expenses. Fellows will contribute up to 10 hours per week supporting studio operations and campus activities, with the remainder of their time dedicated to independent work on personal projects.
