This two-day workshop gives you an opportunity to explore the various surfaces… find out new options for oil painting and find new favorites!

Trying out a new surface is a great way to experiment with your paintings, without having to change the style or genre. Changing the surface can be so much fun - your paint will feel and behave depending on the substrate! See what kinds of effects and finishes oil paint will produce when used on aluminum, arches oil paper, fine linen board, black gessoed board , even canvas if time allows.

For an additional fee (bring $20 in cash!) you can try out the crème dela crème of oil painting surfaces - an 8x10 Raymar copper panel! References will be provided in landscape and floral scenes but students are welcome to paint anything from your own to references to abstract works.
