International Day of Peace

September 21, 2025
11:30AM - 03:30PM

A collaboration between the Asheville Art Museum and students from Asheville School celebrates the International Day of Peace with activities to inform, involve, and inspire the community in moving towards peace.

The International Day of Peace (Peace Day) is observed around the world each year on September 21. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

Inform—visit the tables on the Museum Plaza to learn about local and global organizations supporting the United Nations 17 Sustainable Goals and how you can ACT NOW. These goals serve as a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for the people and the planet, now and into the future.

Involve—participate in the Moment of Silence for Peace – May Peace Prevail on Earth at noon on the Plaza. Contribute to the Community Peace Puzzle collage on the Museum Plaza and share your voice and your plan to act toward peace.

Inspire—watch dance and spoken word performances by Asheville School students in the Windgate Foundation Atrium at noon and 2pm.

  • Nature of Resilience, a group dance performance inspired by Maya Lin’s Pin River—French Broad River and the resilience of our community after Hurricane Helene.

  • The Sky is Healing

  • Our Dream, with spoken word
