Craft Making & Thinking Craft Conference
Join us next month for Craft Making & Thinking: Appalachian Heritage and Culture — an immersive celebration of Appalachian craft traditions and cultural identity.
📅 May 24–25, 2025 📍 Folk Art Center, Asheville, NC
This special event brings together master craftspeople, emerging artists, storytellers, musicians, and cultural leaders for two inspiring days of craft demonstrations, panel discussions, and live performances — all highlighting the deep ties between craft and Appalachian heritage.
Featured speakers include Jim McDowell, Marie Cochran, Davy Arch, and Lyle Wheeler, with special presentations by emerging artists sharing their creative journeys.
Organized by Mike Hatch, glassblower and Guild archivist, this second annual gathering continues the Southern Highland Craft Guild’s 95-year legacy of honoring and uplifting the diverse voices that shape our region’s story.
This event was made possible through a grant from North Carolina Humanities — connecting communities and amplifying culture.
