The Art of Homage, New Works by Philip DeAngelo

I am excited to work with the concept of 'homage', which is about connection to one's influences, inspirations, and experiences. Widely acknowledged across all creative fields as intrinsic to how people process and share and produce, it is particularly notable in the visual arts as a potentially honorific aspect within the creation process. Many artists feel connections to those they've studied in the past, where a comic or literal or ethereal style can remind one of time or place or both. I have selected a few of my varied inspirations from a pretty big list as focal points on this topic, from early 20th century illustrators like N.C. Wyeth, to mid-century and modern artists like David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Jack Kirby, and Mark Rothko, and even some early personal inspirations like Theodor Suess Geisel and Norman Rockwell.
