Heather Maloney | Sundays by the River
Drift away to original music by singer-songwriter Heather Maloney on July 12 at 4PM at the Olivette Riverside Pavilion by the French Broad River.
Massachusetts-based “writer song-singer” Heather Maloney discovered her voice during three years at a meditation center, shaping a sound rooted in quiet reflection and emotional storytelling. Influenced by artists and thinkers like Joni Mitchell, Rilke, and Zen parables, her music explores the inner world with honesty, warmth, and grace.
With more than 1,000 international performances and eight studio albums behind her, Maloney recently released her ninth and most personal record, Exploding Star (2025). Written after the death of her father and recorded in her abandoned childhood home using his guitar, the album is both intimate and expansive—illuminating grief, memory, and resilience through lush, heartfelt songwriting.
Praised by outlets including The New York Times, SPIN, and The Boston Globe, Maloney has toured internationally as both a headliner and alongside artists like Lake Street Dive, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Shawn Colvin. Graham Nash called her music “really excellent,” while The Huffington Post praised her “lyrics that cut to the chase.”
