Get ready for a mixed-media collage book adventure - beginners welcome!

Learning to collage presents endless possibilities in book construction. On the first day of this two-day class, students will use metallic paper, inks, and torn or cut mixed media papers to create ‘collage enclosures’ for five signatures of folded paper - the blank pages that make up the inside of a book. On day two, Mary Alice will teach students how to sew the signatures into a functional journal with a basket-weave spine stitch - as well as adding beads, decorative yarns, and jewelry findings to embellish.

Students will have access to a variety of patterned art papers, paints, inks, colored pencils, and more. If you have these on hand, also bring decorative or vintage papers, ephemera, handwritten paper, small magazine cut-outs of less than three inches, beads that can be threaded with waxed linen thread, and ¾ inch broken jewelry to embellish.

These one-of-a-kind books are great as sketchbooks, journals, art journals, special occasion recordings, or gifts. Adventures await!
